About Us | The Calm Caterpillar

Our Mission

The Calm Caterpillar offers a set of products and techniques that have been proven to create calmer home and school environments. We employ mindfulness in our own unique way, combining the practice of creating a calm space in your house for your children with breathing techniques that teachers and parents model. The result is a blend of peaceful, calming techniques that we personalize with your family’s best interest in mind.

Our History

The Calm Caterpillar was founded by Sarah Habib, who has extensive experience in teaching mindfulness to kids of all ages and backgrounds. In 2016, Sarah created a curriculum primarily focused on movement and mindfulness that was used by the San Venetia Valley School in Marin County, California that was for 3rd-8th graders. After receiving strong support from the principal, teachers, students, and families, the program turned into a 501c3 that focused on bringing movement and mindfulness to as many schools as possible. In 2017 that 501c3 landed in the Cincinnati Public School district and began working with a school on how to incorporate movement and mindfulness into teacher lesson plans as well as direct programming.

Our Results

Since 2017, our curriculum has spread from one school to 45 schools. Over 10,000 students have used the program and currently 2,000+ students receive the program every week. Students as young at two years old have successfully used the curriculum as well as seniors in high school who are 17 and 18. The curriculum is currently used to meet Ohio state requirements for the Social and Emotional Learning for Cincinnati Public Preschool students.

Our Expertise

In 2019 a study was conducted on the curriculum by the University of Cincinnati, School of Education, College of Education Criminal Justice, and Human Services, Evaluation Services Center. The study found that “students receiving the program were rated with fewer conduct problems and improved social competence and prosocial behavior over time relative to control students.” This is the curriculum being used in Calm Caterpillar. Prior to this, The Calm Caterpillar founder Sarah Habib held leadership roles at Nielsen and TIBCO. She has a certificate in Z-Health R-Phase and I-Phase as well as a certificate from Mindful Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies - Comparative Race and Ethnicity from Tufts University.
