Importance of Breathing Deeply & Consciously Correctly
Breathing is such an important part of our everyday lives. One of the ideas that we champion the most is to remember to breathe deeply and consciously, which can give you amazing physical and mental benefits. Additionally, if you learn and master how to remember to breathe on your own, you can easily pass this along to your children to help them lead calmer lives, which we outline more as part of our Calm Caterpillar Parent Class.
It’s always great to keep an open mind and to try and draw inspiration when you’re out in the real world. We encourage you to think about what might inspire you to breathe deeply and more consciously. Try it next time you’re out and about - have a look around and ask yourself, where can I gather inspiration to help me lead my healthiest life?
For example, let’s imagine that you’re walking through the park on a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon. Maybe you come across a patch of pretty flowers and you stop to smell them. As you smell the flowers, you take a nice, slow inhale to make sure you can really appreciate how good these flowers smell!
What you’ve just done is made a conscious decision to breathe deeply. If you can do that even a handful of times per day on your own, you will start to see those physical and mental benefits mentioned earlier. Maybe the inspiration from smelling the flowers in the park reminds you of the flower and candle breathing technique. Even if there are no flowers around, the technique encourages you to breathe in deeply, as if you’re smelling flowers, and breathe out slowly but fully, like you’re carefully blowing out a candle.
Of course, there are the four other breathing techniques that we teach: hand breathing, buddy breathing, lion’s breath, and belly breathing. Maybe a high-five from a friend or your kids will remind you of the up-and-down, back-and-forth motion of hand breathing. Perhaps a nice weekend trip to the zoo with the family will inspire you to do your best impression of a lion - breathe in deep, and on the exhale, stick that tongue out and let it roar! Inspiration can come from so many angles and sources, even in the most normal or otherwise uneventful situations. Let your mind wander, and learn to practice your breathing. Maybe you can even make a game out of it!
It’s just that easy - if you use your imagination a little bit, and if you take what you’re learning in the Calm Caterpillar Parent Class, it can be so seamless to change your breathing. And if you can learn how to be the leader of your own breathing and consciously use the techniques we teach, then you’ll be a pro at passing this information onto your kids in no time!
Our goal is to help you achieve a calmer and more peaceful household by using the secret power of breathing. We want you to go out in the world, get inspired, and use any excuse you can find to practice your breathing. The more you do it, the better you’ll get at it. The better you get at it, the better teacher you’ll be to your children. So get out there and use that wonderful imagination of yours to find a reason to do one of the healthiest and kindest things you can do for yourself - breathe!
